Fighting Acne - September 3rd, 2009

Ah, acne.  It’s one of those things that has a huge impact on your life, even if you tell yourself it doesn’t.  Why is that?  It’s something I have been trying to figure out ever since I had my first zit as an adolescent.  I like to tell myself that outward appearances don’t matter to me, but there’s no denying that, even now, I feel shame when my skin doesn’t look good.  I think it’s because it’s something you can’t hide, especially when it’s all over your face.

Right there, for everyone to see, is an obvious imperfection.  This can be painful and traumatic for teenagers who are already sensitive to social pressures.  And it is for these reasons that I think acne creams can be a good idea.  No one should have to live with  something that will cause others to stare.  More than anything else, excess acne can be a confidence destroyer.

Although the condition of your skin in no way reflects the kind of person you are, it sure can feel that way!  Having no confidence can be just as destructive all by itself as being openly teased and ridiculed by others.  Either way, you can feel socially isolated, powerless, and not acceptable to other people.  Those things aren’t true, of course, but I can’t deny that I have felt that way in the past.  Looking a little better can help you feel much better about yourself.
