Do Dead Skin Cells Cause Acne - August 27th, 2009

The skin is an interesting organ in a lot of ways.  I don’t usually think of it as an organ, not in the sense that a heart or a kidney is an organ.  But the skin has an equally important function, and it deserves to be called an organ too.  Like all organs, it is made up of tissues that are made up of cells.  These cells are especially tough and water-tight as a protective layer to keep all sorts of things out of your body.

Cells are constantly dying and new cells are forming so that the skin stays fresh and continues to function as a protective barrier.  Some of the problems we have with our skin come because of those dead skin cells.  If you don’t wash your skin properly, those cells can build up, clog your pores, and lead to pimples.  How do you prevent this from happening?  Well, since the skin cells are dying every day, your skin needs to be washed often.

Washing your skin with soap will work for most of your body, but special considerations do need to be given to your face.  The most effective way to wash your face is with a wash cloth or sponge.  Using these materials helps to catch the dead skin cells and wash them off.  That’s really all it takes to keep the dead skin cells from becoming a problem.
